By using appropriate moulds of different sizes and shapes. When it comes to moulds, there are three types which are PVC moulds, Plastic moulds and Rubber moulds. Of the three, rubber moulds are generally considered better than the others. Why?
Well, it is considered more eco-friendly than the other ones which naturally makes it preferred. Apart from this, there are many other reasons that make people prefer rubber moulds. If you want to know what they are, then keep reading.
Rubber, as we all know is a highly versatile natural polymer that has the property of elasticity, which means that it can stretch up to a certain extent. Apart from the elastic property, other features include such as strength, long lasting, heat and water resistance.
Due to these factors, a variety of items such as tyres, rubber bands, boots, waterproof buckets, and even moulds, etc are manufactured. Many well known and reputed companies normally produces rubber mould for paver block manufacturers due to these advantages. It is highly advised to opt for rubber moulds for making paver blocks.
Rubber in its natural form cannot be directly used for mould making, therefore it involves a series of processes. To say the entire process, it pouring the liquid rubber onto metal cavity which in turn produces the ideal rubber mould. This end product is what is used for manufacturing paver blocks, tiles, etc.
The rubber mould manufacturing process undergoes any one of the three types of procedures which are injection moulding, compression moulding and transfer moulding. Here we explain about each moulding process.
In this mould making process the heated material that is the rubber is injected into the mold cavity under high pressure. The material in its molten state is fed inside the injection barrel in the form of a continuous strip.
Injection molding is the most proficient way of creating rubber molded products. After the rubber is fed into the barrel, it is then warmed by an auger screw in a temperature controlled barrel. Once the rubber material accumulates in front of the screw, it is pulled backwards.
After that, the preheated rubber is injected into the mold cavities by the press. After the injection process, the material cools and hardens according to the shape of the metal cavity. This method is generally considered the most precise way to shape rubber since there’s only minimal wastage of the material. The cost for labor is low by using this method.
Out of the three moulding methods, this one is considered the oldest and least expensive. In compression molding, the rubber chunk is placed into a heated mould cavity and the mould is closed. After that pressure (compression) is applied which forces the material to form the exact shape as that of the mould cavity, all while heat and pressure are maintained.
Once the rubber moulding process is completed, the excess flash (excess material) are removed from the rubber moulded product. The heating time can vary based on the type of moulded material. Normally this procedure is ideal for rubber compounds that have large surface areas. Products such as electrical insulators, silicone wristbands, etc are manufactured by the compression molding process.
In transfer moulding the rubber chunks are placed on top of a transport pot which is then forced into the mold cavity with the help of a ram/plunger mechanism and sprue. To make the rubber material flow easier and fill the mould cavity efficiently, it is preheated.
The cost for this method isn’t that expensive which makes it ideal for creating complex parts. When compared with injection moulding, transfer moulding uses high pressures for uniformly filing the material in the mould cavity.
