Importance Of Colour Oxides For Paver Block Manufacturing

Posted

So far we have been discussing the importance of rubber mould for compound walls and related things. This time we wanted to make a change by discussing something else. You must have seen all those colourful paver blocks, tiles in pedestrian zones or public square.

On first sight itself, you must have thought how are do these blocks get their colour. It is due to the addition of colour oxides. Today, in this blog, we explain the importance of using colour oxides & how are they helpful for paver mould manufacturersRubber mould for compound walls.

What Are Colour Oxides

In simple words, they are pigments that give the concrete paver blocks or compound walls its colour. Choosing the pigment is a major factor to determine the quality of the final product. When it comes to pigments, there are two types which are organic & inorganic pigments.

After having undertaken countless tests over the years on coloured concrete products exposed to different climatic conditions all over the world, it was found that the inorganic oxide pigments were shown to be more economical & long-lasting on the products. At JR Rubber we provide the best Iron oxides suitable for paver production

Uses In Manufacturing

The colour oxides are added to the mixture during the paver making process. This tints the concrete mixture which, in turn, gives the desired colour in the final result. Whether it is manufacturing compound walls & paver blocks, the adding of colour oxides are the same. We can achieve the two-colour or multi-colour effect by adding 2 or 3 colour oxides

Also in most cases, depending on the proportions in which two or more coloured concrete batches are mixed, the emphasis can be placed more on one or the other on the basis of colours. Depending on the machinery available, several different production procedures are available.

Some Important Tips

Although it may seem simple to add colour & mix it, the process has to done carefully so as to achieve the best colour. In most cases, the amount of colour oxides added is only 3% of the total weight. This helps in achieving a more rich level of colour.

Also, before adding the colour oxides into the aggregate mixture, you have to make sure that water is not added first. The colour oxides have to be mixed evenly with the dry mixture.

Finally, you can now add the measured water to the mixture. Make sure that when you’re pouring water, do not just pour it into one location alone. Keep sprinkling water over the mixture while mixing. By using a pan mixer, not only a uniform colour can be achieved, but also it helps to evenly mix the aggregate, cement & oxide quickly to produce a really good mixture for pavers.

The Best Colour Oxides

Red oxide, black oxide, yellow oxide, white oxide and grey oxide are some of the colours we use for production purposes.

Along with these oxides, we add certain water-reducing agents or plasticizers whose objective is to provide additional strength & better colour to the final product.

  • SMF ( Sulphonated Melamine Formaldehyde)

SMF powder and colour oxides are particularly used in the production process. The SMF is a well-known superplasticizer used in paver production around the world. It is a high range water reducer used in construction as well as industrial products that offers ultimate strength.

  • PCE (Poly Carboxylated Either)

PCE is a well-known superplasticizer and performs as a quick setting agent or water reducing agent. The reason why they are called as superplasticizers is that they are high range water reducers and are actually chemicals used as concrete mixtures. Polycarboxylate superplasticizers are known to have gained more popularity and attention in the modern construction industry due to its superior dispersibility and retention effects.
